Nils Bultmann is a UC Berkeley doctoral student in music composition. His versatile background ranges from studying German literature as an undergrad at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to performing with the New World Symphony under conductor Michael Tilson Thomas and recording and touring with jazz saxophonist Roscoe Mitchell. A active collaborator, his upcoming projects include the release of his viola duets recorded together with Hank Dutt of the Kronos String Quartet, as well as a series of video and performance pieces. Noah Luna received his Master’s Degree in Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Conrad Susa. He currently works as part of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra’s Incredible Shrinking Orchestra Project: reducing Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet.” His most recent commission, “Entrometido,“ from the album “Somtimes the City is Silent,” was praised by Interchanging Idioms as ” amazing and lyric, quarrelsome and constantly interrupted, playful and diverse in scope of tonal color.” For more information about Noah’s other current projects, visit www.noahluna.com.
Evelyn Ficarra spent several years as a freelance composer, teacher and sound editor, and has written music for dance, theater, experimental film, installation, radio and the concert hall. Born in California, she moved to the UK as a teenager, then returned to the USA in 2005 to study at UC Berkeley, where she recently completed a PhD in Composition. She has had a strong focus on electro-acoustic and collaborative work but is increasingly drawn to large scale instrumental forms.
